Modal and Superbond
|
Modal is a proven phenolic glue
extender with over forty years of dependable service in the plywood
industry. Superbond is a finer ground extender allowing for increased
initial glue mix viscosity while maintaining stable viscosity
over extended periods of time. Both Modal and
Superbond are manufactured from 100% alder bark ground to rigid
specifications resulting in maximum uniformity from bag to
bag.
When using Modal or
Superbond, the critical properties of the adhesive mix are
consistently reproducible, resulting in stable viscosity, good
pre-press characteristics, controllable penetration into the veneer
and resistance to dry-out. Modal and Superbond blend smoothly
with the ingredients in the glue formula and they are compatible
with all phenolic resins and extenders. |

In addition, Modal and Superbond provide
additional benefits over alternative extender products:
-
The
viscosity of the glue is increased to an optimum range for proper glue
application. This thickening of the glue keeps the glue from
over-penetrating into the veneers.
-
The total
glue mix cost is reduced. By absorbing sizeable amounts of liquid,
Modal and Superbond allow more liquid to be included in the glue mix
resulting in lower costs.
-
Due to
our raw material sourcing and handling, Modal and Superbond have a low
ash content, thus minimizing wear on cutting tools and spray
nozzles.
-
Modal and Superbond are dried to a
very low moisture level thereby increasing their absorption capabilities
but also resulting in the delivery of more product and less water when
compared to other extenders.
Modal Regular grade is used with glue
spreaders and Modal Spray grade and Superbond are designed for curtain
coaters and spray-line glue operations. All Ace extender products
are approved by APA - The Engineered Wood Association.
